And check this out. Obama actually stated signing the Freedom of Choice Act, a law essentially outlawing all state laws restricting abortion, would be his first priority if he's elected. His first priority. So, we actually have to pray to God that this guy is a liar. If he is honest, then he will personally undo all of the forward motion we have kicked and screamed to get in the past thirty years. Just like that.

I am terrified.

Wow. That first article was terrifying. I had no idea this was actually happening in the U.S. Why didn't those nurses quit immediately, or at least try to kidnap the sick babies and get them to a hospital that would try to save them? I can't imagine working day in and day out and getting THAT calloused. I don't understand why Obama would be okay with this practice. My only guess is that his wife is the one driving it, and that he personally has no idea how brutal this is. I am really disgusted with the idea that this ever happens here.
Legally, these babies should be considered human beings, with all the rights appurtenant thereto, and I thought that was the law federally, which would trump this state law that allows for this practice. i.e. I think this practice is illegal.
Hmm. yeah, it's an interesting problem. It would have to be a law on the books federally that affords the human being, which a born-alive child would clearly be, the right to life-sustaining help medically in this type of situation. Like if a homeless guy w/nobody attached to him was found outside a hospital bleeding to death that the hospital has a duty to take him inside and try to save him, that type of thing. I wonder if there is anything like that on the books. If not, it's the right thing to do to make sure - not just for the sake of babies but for the sake of the homeless and helpless - that one gets enacted federally to keep states from this kind of thing.
And yeah, Jess, Obama is really wrong on this, and it does scare me if it's accurate. I don't know how you could be quite that calloused.
Thank you. I am crying over this. I am horrified that this is going on and that Britney Spear's sister gets more press. What kind of world are we living in?
It's a world that's coming to an end. Remember that. I'm reading about the Japanese invading Chinese villages and killing and raping young people and babies - and this happens all the time all over the world. You and I just are too comfortable in our own little spheres to remember how violent Satan really is.
Jess, your passion for the unborn is amazing. I am very proud of you, for that and so many other things.

Yes, it's neat that Jess takes such an interest in babies, I just wish the Repubs took more of an interest in poor struggling families trying to make it on the minimum wage (Repubs oppose raising it) and in poor people still trying to pay their taxes when millionaires have been given so many loopholes by the Repubs that they pay nothing. Damnit, there's a LOT of suffering out there, and it isn't just babies, and there are a lot of folks dying out there b/c they can't get health care due to lack of insurance and can't afford hospitals and can't afford good schools for their kids and can't afford nutritious food - and ALL b/c the Repubs DON'T CARE ABOUT POOR PEOPLE. I feel like I'm talking to myself here. Sigh.
Would it be fair for me to say that all Democrats DON'T CARE ABOUT BABIES as you put it? Please refrain from grandiose generalizations. And offer up your proof. Don't forget that there's a big difference between "not caring" and believing that the best charities work on a local level verses federal governmental programs. The reason most Republicans oppose the kinds of pro-poor reforms the dems want isn't because they hate poor people. It's because they hate big government programs that don't work and prefer the kinds of state and local ones that do.
Case in point: habitat for humanity has successfully built bunches of new homes in New Orleans while the government programs for rebuilding have languished beneath piles of paperwork and regulations. That's what happens when the federal government runs programs. Lots of bureaucracy, lots of cost, little benefit. When the local charities, churches, and state programs do the work, it gets done better, quicker and cheaper. Republicans don't hate poor people. Republicans give far more to the poor than democrats do. No, republicans simply hate government programs that do badly what local and state programs could do so much better.
WHAT??!!!!! I'd like to see your "proof" that Repubs give MORE than Dems do to the poor. That just made me laugh out loud. Come on. Seriously. McCain has SEVEN HOUSES, Jess. Clearly he's giving a lot to the poor and needy. Please.
And guess what? Rich people DON'T GIVE TO THE POOR. Check out MTV's Cribs if you don't believe me. They spend their money on gold houses and six foreign cars (they don't even spend their money on AMERICAN goods). The needs of the poor pretty much ARE NOT TAKEN CARE OF on local levels. My God, if there weren't food stamps mothers who are trying to work full time at min. wage jobs while raising toddlers could never ever afford formula at $26/can! Come on!!! Who do you think benefits from the Repub policy that all min. wage raises are bad?? The sick and poor who actually WORK those jobs or the crappy managers and owners who make a kazillion dollars and dispose of those same workers like kleenex? A lot of dems, you may not realize, come from really low income areas. Why is that, Jess? Could it be b/c they see which party actually gives a crap about them?

Jess, that first article is in a paper so clearly biased toward conservatism that I can't even take it seriously. Like if I recommended an article in "We Love Liberals".com or something. You can't believe that really. I am getting nervous about your naivete in believing what you read in these conservative mags. Do you also believe all you hear on Fox news?
And I'm sorry, I'd like to hear your response to the SEVEN HOUSES McCain owns at this time. Explain how he is the morally correct choice again to me.
I mean, Al Gore is a putz, but what percentage of his income do you think this guy you're holding up as the moral choice for president gives? I doubt even .2% if he could own that much unapologetically. It makes me ill to contemplate.
Okay, not to get too off-topic, but I have to ask: Have you seen those new Burger King mushroom & swiss commercials yet with the two guys playing mandolin and singing like Simon & Garfunkel? I almost fell off the sofa laughing. They're awesome.
Oh, and finally, I gotta note that I even have doubts about Sarah Palin's love for the Lord. Apparently her daughter is pregnant out of wedlock by a self-described "f___ng redneck". And Sarah is apparently just fine with that. Not cool as our top "moral choice".
Eh, I don't question her love for the Lord. Who knows how that is? But I do question her ability to run the country if she can't run her family with Christian values. Even elders in the Bible were required to have a strict hold on their family before they could be approved to that position. Morally speaking, she has clearly failed in this regard.
Because her daughter is pregnant out of wedlock? That makes her morally unworthy? I was pregnant out of wedlock. Others in our family were pregnant out of wedlock. You thought you were pregnant at least once. I'm pretty much positive that most if not all families have experienced at least one pregnancy or think-we-might-be pregnancy out of wedlock by someone in their fam. If the choices your kids make are the standard one is held to as far as being really a christian or truly moral, then we're pretty much all screwed. Just you wait and see.
Oh, and I truly adore that commercial.
By the way, what do you think of my music?
The music is great, although now I can't keep your page up in the background all the time. I am very impressed with your weirdo-type choices. I would have picked the same things. :)
And my point w/regard to Palin and McCain is that we can't just choose based on moral stuff this time. I feel like it's a little too facile to pick and choose which things we will pay attention to in their characters and base our decision on that. I just can't stand McCain, and I really don't think Palin is ready to serve.
"It looks like you're already missed. Ha. Ha. Ha." That killed me. Burger King is stinking brilliant with its ads.
Also, you should include a link on your blog somewhere to Jenny McCarthy's autism website, www.generationrescue.org. It's amazing. I'm not vaccinating Livvy again until age 2 as a result of reading everything on it. The research is very good, and the anecdotal evidence is compelling.
Wow. Actually I love the paper you first linked me too. That's a great resource for coverage overall. I just looked at all the polls, which they compile into graphs. Very interesting stuff. Nice find, Jess.
It's like watching Ebert and the other movie critic.....Thumbs up or down....Maybe you two need a show of your own...mom
ah, but what should we call it?
Actually, we could probably call it "Now Entering The State of Insanity." That would kind of fit us both, wouldn't it? :)
